Make a Vista sidebar gadget

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Vista users will be aware of the sidebar and the gadgets that it can contain. Although the sidebar has been dismissed by many as a hog of screen real estate, I personally think it is quite useful. I suspect that most SWiSH’ers are not aware of how easy it is to make great looking sidebar gadgets using SWiSH Max2 or SWiSH miniMax2.

Sites Area Closing

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

We’ll be closing our ‘Sites’ submissions area soon. A lot of the content is old and no longer relevant. This was once a useful service but those times have past – many thanks to everyone who has contributed.

We’re still maintaining the ‘Movies‘, ‘Components‘ and ‘Effects‘ sections. These are great collections of free samples and content which the community has been building on for many years. If you have some content you think would benefit someone please pass it on – to submit first log into your my.swishzone.com account and select ‘Submission Forms’.

Thanks.

UPGRADE SWiSH Max v1.x TO SWiSH miniMax2

SWiSH miniMax2 is more powerful than SWiSH Max (version 1) and we think you will benefit from the upgrade but please consider the advantages and disadvantages of the move to SWiSH miniMax2.

What you gain with the upgrade:
Place/edit text on stage and per char attributes
Access to Components (including vector clipart)
Improved scripting assistance
Animated GIF and PNG Export
Access to changes in Flash technology (e.g. SWF9)
Substantial improvements in script support to AS2
Open and save to SWiSH Max2 file format (more samples!)
Effects Browser
Improved User Interface

Key features in SWiSH Max which are not in SWiSH miniMax2 include: AVI and EXE Export, Free form scripting, Tint Panel, Color Panel, Perspective Tool, Effects authoring (.sfx). If you need these features, and already have a SWiSH Max license, SWiSH Max2, our professional and developer orientated product, is a more suitable upgrade.

Searchable Flash files

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Some good news for Flash developers. Adobe is working with Google and Yahoo! to enhance search engine indexing with Flash files (SWFs). This will work across all existing SWF files so nothing needs to be changed.

“Adobe has created a special Flash player for the search engines that acts like a virtual user going through each application. It actually goes through the runtime of each Flash application and translates it into something the search engines can understand. So all of those fancy interactive Flash Websites and other rich Internet applications that have been invisible to search engines, can now be seen by them.” source.

See the Adobe article for the official statement here.
